How do I increase the ram on my computer?

I wish to install security software but, I have only a very basic system and the ram is 224mb and I need around 260mb to run the software. What do I need to do? Please explain in basic terms as I am very new to all this. Thank you for your time.

How do I increase the ram on my computer?norton antivirus 2007

i will explain this in a basic way so you can understand everything

the first thing you need to do is find out what type of memory(ram)you have in your p.c...to do this go to http://www.crucial.com/,and run the "scan my system"option, this will scan your system and give you a report on what type of memory you need

a yellow security bar will drop down when you start, you need to install the active x control option(its safe to do) and then the scanner will be able to scan your p.c

when you look at the report you will see the type of memory you need,it will be either sd-ram,ddr sdram or ddr2 sdram.however the best thing is to print the report out and take this to your local computer shop as they will understand exactly the memory you will need

once you have the memory, open your p.c case and you then should locate your memory banks(these are the slots for your memory)and will be found next to your processor at the side of the motherboard

take your memory(hold by the sides,,do not touch the chips as you can damage the memory if handled wrong)and find a empty slot, then gently inset the memory into the slot,do not force it,it will only go in one way,and make sure that the white retaining clips, snap into place these will hold the memory in place
