First thing, you need to provide more information in order for a definative answer to given.

I checked the www site for Buslink

they have several flavors of external hard drive in the mix, USB 1, USB 2, Firewire, Serial ATA etc....

Depending on the Model of your particular drive and assuming you have the proper interface on the new computer ie... USB 1, USB 2, etc.. You most likely just need to download the proper driver in order for it to work. You should be able to obtain the driver on the www site I listed above, just identify your external drive by model and download the appropriate driver, once downloaded install the driver, it will likely require a re-boot.

NOTE: Most USB Devices 1.0 or 2.0 require that the device NOT be connected when you install the driver files. You install the drivers and once installation is completed and computer restarted connect the device and your computer should do a short initialization/installation of the device.

One more note: If your computer supports USB 2.0 the hardware drivers may and may not have it configured properly, a large number of PC's as pre-configured have the USB set up as USB 1, in order to have it recognised as USB 2 you may have to visit the Computer Manufacturers www site to obtain a patch to enable USB 2, the drivers for USB 2 are provided By Microsoft, but again they may not install without a patch from the Manufacturer making your USB 2 be set up as USB 1. In any case USB 2 devices tend to be backward compatible with USB 1 and will install and operate on it although at a lower data transfer speed.
