You know like when they try to find the bad guy and all they have is that low res. picture from the security camera...



Yet somehow it locates the bad guy and says "99% possible match"



Is there really something similar to that, that could be used to locate other images?



(google image search just doesn't cut it for me... :-p )

Yes, there are systems that do that. The basic idea is to perform a face structure analysis that creates a numerical 'thumbprint' of the face. Images can be quickly compared using their thumbprints.



The hits the system finds are then checked by a human.
