I think most probably your operating systems on your computer does not seem to match with the latest version,try downloading previous version of the messenger and do the upgrade after installing,it should work that way,as it will determine whether which version it can take the max,if still persist,pls try re-format if possible

u probaly need to upgrade 2 windows xp or mac os if u do your computer is too slow
