How do I virus protect my new computer at first boot up?

I have new Vista, just out of the box. How do I protect it from viruses and other malware when I first boot up tomorrow (and get on the 'net to bring my protection software up to date)? I have activated Vista firewall, and activated Norton Security 2007 trial, and also Defender....but they may well have been installed 2-3 months ago. I'm concerned that just that time between signing on to the net, and getting my protection ware up to date, might present me with unwanted attacks. Suggestions?

I think youll be fine as long as you dont go on any stupid sites, but id get AVG as a temporary Antivirus program it takes minutes to set up and its free, also maybe if you can get a second firewall (you might haveta buy that) those are always good. like you know norton has its own firewall pertection.. But if you have a router thats best of all just close all unnecessary ports and make sure everything is secure, thats a huge advantage .

You will be ok. I just got Vista too, I downloaded the lasted Microsoft updates and a free antivirus and a few other spyware programs. Vista is pretty secure. And it's soooo cooooool. If you want some free spyware or virus tools go here http://www.basicspywaretips.com/
According to what you did, you should be sufficiently protected by the programs. Norton would have automatically updated when you activated. Windows Defender would have done the same. Vista should have accessed Microsoft/Windows Updates automatically and you should be protected.
1) u wont get virus unless u download 2) get nod32 its the est one out there
